To be fair, with everyone driving 3 row SUVs with small glass area and passive head restraints in the locked and upright position for all 3 rows, rearward visibility has really taken a nosedive.

I can almost hear the acoustic guitar and wispy vocals in the background.

I almost backed over a kid at Trader Joe’s last year (no fancy safety systems on my car), an I can tell you I was not at all relaxed. Was looking over my shoulder, but the kid was just shorter than my trunk lid, so I couldn’t see her . Only stopped because I had the windows open and could hear the kid’ s mom let out, not a scream, but some sort of panicked sound. Couldn’t help but feel that if it had been a few degrees warmer and I had the windows closed with A/C on, I wouldn’t have heard her.
Quite sure my next car will have at least a back up cam.

Oh I’m not challenging the need for backup cams and auto reverse braking. It’s just that all the ads are exactly the same. And I can tell you the number of times people back up and almost hit pedestrians in parking lots and pulling out of their driveways regardless.

Also, attractive mom of kid is seen smiling and waving to the driver with similarly placid look of mild relief , rather than screaming and yelling with understandably irate reaction to Distracted Guy almost killing her child.

This is why I don’t go to Trader Joe’s

Yep, pretty much.

If only vehicles had some way to signal they are reversing, Telling pedestrians that now is not an ideal time to stroll behind the car. I don’t expect kids to get that, but I expect adults to

Painfully accurate. Not just an accurate recap of those ads, but an accurate portrayal of the kind of people our DMVs consider fit to have a driver’s license .
